If so, join YARCC and the Crazy Dames, a creative impact collective that is developing a project entitled ‘Building Together’ as part of This City IV

For a week and a half in early October, Crazy Dames, will be leading a collaborative project ‘Building Together’, which invites Yellowknife residents to work together to explore the question – ‘what makes an inclusive city?’. This will include a series of workshops (From Stories to Art) facilitated by Crazy Dames which ask residents to share stories about their experiences in Yellowknife and contribute to an immersive art installation that will transform the space and set the stage for further activation of the space!

The workshops are FREE!  Thank you to our funders, The City of Yellowknife and the Government of the Northwest Territories, for making this possible.

Groups must register ahead of time. To register a group for a daytime or an evening workshop, contact, or message us on our Facebook Page.

The timing of daytime sessions is flexible. While we encourage groups to come experience the space, off-site workshops are an option if your group cannot meet us on-site. Registration deadline: September 17th.

Capacity: 35 participants.

The evening workshops are open to the public! No registration is required.

Building Together Part II: Local-Led Space Activation

Call for artists and facilitators!

October 6, 7, 8.

Interested individuals or groups are asked to write a proposal of maximum 250 words outlining the work they would like to share or create as well as a short bio about who they are.

Each participant or participant group will receive an honorarium of $200 to activate the space for 2-3 hours (this includes any materials required). These sessions will take place between Friday October 6 and Sunday October 8.

Send the proposals to: and by September 17.

About Crazy Dames

Crazy Dames is a collaboration between Jennie Suddick, a visual artist/educator, and Sara Udow, an urban/community/cultural planner. As a reclamation and an ode to Jane Jacobs, the seminal urban theorist who was often dismissed as a 'crazy dame' by male counterparts, we use the artist's studio as an experimental lab to test Jacobs' ‘crazy’ ideas - her focus on people and her tradition of fostering tactical and collaborative approaches to our cities. We develop creative, and experiential spaces aimed at generating conversations and new ideas about how we design, interact and play in our cities.

Founded in 2011, the Yellowknife Artist Run Commnity Center (YK ARCC)is a non-profit organization facilitating the production and presentation of Yellowknife and NWT artwork. It brings artists and organization of all art forms together and encourages collaboration, with a vision for a community where individuals are empowered to create positive change through art.
