Arts Coordinator Position

Part-time contract

Time Period: Term period to November 30th, 2016

Job Status: Contract (equivalent to part time hours)


The Yellowknife Artist Run Community Center (ARCC) is seeking an Arts Coordinator to direct and promote ARCC programming on a part-time basis (approximately 20 hours per week) for a term period starting immediately to November 30th, 2016 (6 months), with potential for contract extension.


Reporting to the ARCC Board and with support from the Board Directors, the coordinator will assume coordination of the ARCCs summer and fall programming, including but not limited to working with the City of Yellowknife, and our "This City" artist residency.  The coordinator will also assist with ongoing ARCC activities and programs during the term.  

This position will particularly appeal to individuals looking to supplement their income, and those looking for mentorship in arts coordination, as the coordinator will work closely with members of the ARCC board to carry out his/her duties.

The successful candidate will be able to work from the ARCC studio if they so choose (located on MacDonald Drive, Old Town, Yellowknife).


The successful candidate will take over coordination of ARCC summer programming, and preparation for fall programming.  Tasks include:

  • Assist artists with installation and take-down of their work

  • Schedule gallery hours and volunteer gallery sitters

  • Coordinate and promote event openings, artist talks, and other public engagement events (e.g. school visits)

  • Respond to artists ongoing needs through

Other ongoing duties for the coordinator include:

  • Maintain ongoing communication with the ARCC executive (President, Vice President)

  • Attend ARCC meetings (1-2 per month);

  • Assist board members in planning and writing project and funding proposals;

  • Assist the treasurer with managing project funding and reporting;

  • Communicate with ARCC members and the general public regarding events and projects through the ARCC website, social media, and other forms; and

  • Maintain membership and volunteer lists


Required skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Experience in project and funding proposal writing;

  • Excellent organizational skills;

  • Must enjoy working with the public;

  • Experience in planning, organizing, and carrying out public workshops;

  • Must be able to work long and flexible hours depending on organizational requirements (including some weekend and evenings); and

  • A strong background in planning and project management.


The following skills would be an asset:

  • A background in the arts;

  • Experience working with a Board of Directors; and

  • Familiarity with ARCC.


Educational Background and Experience:

  • The successful applicant will have at a minimum a High School Diploma, and 3-5 years experience in a relevant field;

  • Other work or educational equivalences will be considered.



Total value of contract under review. Approximate hourly equivalent: $20-$25/hour.
